Buying a Puppy

BEFORE buying a puppy, ask yourselves the following,

Is the breed you've chosen the right breed for you and your family??

Do you have the time and facilities for that particular breed??

Do you have the time to socialise a new puppy??

Are you aware what time is needed for a new puppy??

If the answer is yes, then the following applies.

Always buy from a reputable breeder (preferably kennel club accredited)

Always see mum.

Feel confident that the puppies look healthy and lively, well reared and socialised

The surroundings should be clean

Has mum got a good temperment

If the breed you've chosen has health problems, the parents should be tested,ie hips/eyes

Ask the breeder questions, they should be more than happy to give you answers

A breeder worth there salt will have the puppies health checked before you take one home

The puppies should be wormed regular from 2 weeks of age and fortnightly thereafter

Some breeders tattoo and/or microchip before the puppies leave for there new homes

Reputable breeders will insure the puppies before they leave

Some breeders will have the 1st vaccination done at time of the health check

You should receive feeding / exercise /guides for your new puppy, also a pedigree and kennel club registration certificate.

The breeder will supply food for your  puppy ,enough to last you about a week, and advise what the puppy has been reared on and where it can be purchased from.

If the puppy has any endorsements on the kennel club registration, you should be advised about these before you purchase the puppy, also the breeder would let you know the requirements for removing the endorsement if they apply ie hip/eye testing must be done before breeding.

The endorsement must be in writing and signed by both parties concerned (breeder/new owner)

If at a later date you cannot give your puppy/dog the home it requires the breeder will take back or help to rehome it.

The breeder should offer help and advice if needed once you have your new member of your family at home.

Never be tempted to buy a cheap puppy from the local paper and be sure there will be plenty around.

NEVER - Be persueded that a puppy such as a labradoodle/cockerpoo/puggle is a pedigree,THEY ARE NOT,they are a crossbreed and you will be charged a lot of money for such.

Beware of breeders that advertise lots of different litters for sale, are they breeding with the puppies welfare at heart (I THINK NOT)or are they just in it to make money

We hope the above advice and information helps !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please remember puppies chew !!!!!!!!!!!!
